L9 is a remote-sensing satellite missionproviding coverage of the Earth’s land surfaces. This mission ushers in 50 years ofglobal data collection and distribution provided by the Landsat series of satellites.Landsat images provide information that meets the broad and diverse needs ofbusiness, science, education, government, and national security. Landsat 9, launched September 27, 2021, carries nearly identical sensors as L8 — the OLI-2, and the TIRS-2. The OLI-2 data has 14-bit quantization, and improvements to the TIRS-2 increases the quality of split-window thermal data usability.
